It was a warm and sunny Monday when we decided to check out Joe’s Kitchen in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent. I’d actually been before (for breakfast), and the food had been good, so we decided to see what there main food was. It was around quarter past 2, so it was in between lunch and dinner.
The inside of Joe’s is warming and inviting. The vintage feel of the restaurant makes you feel at home and it has a chilled out atmosphere.
We were greeted at the door by a waitress who gave us a four seater table with a booth style side. The restaurant wasn’t too busy (there was around 3 or 4 tables being served), so I didn’t expect much of a wait.
Joe’s Kitchen details this as Apple juice, elderflower syrup and soda with a mint sprig.
The cooler was refreshing and lovely. You received quite a lot for the money you paid for the drink. The presentation was different but kept with the vintage style of Joe’s.
As you can see, the drink is pretty big and good value for the money you pay. The drink was filled to the top with plenty of ice- excellent for a warm spring day or a hot summers day.
My boyfriend opted for an orange juice- he didn’t seem as impressed with it as I was with my cooler.
We didn’t have to wait too long for mains- I was hoping for a dessert (as they looked pretty good) so hadn’t chosen a starter.
The chicken & bacon linguine is described as Chicken & bacon in a creamy sauce with linguine, topped with chives, Grana Padano and smoky paprika.
I have to admit, the veggie options are quite limited, so I chose a protein lunch. I didn’t eat much of the meat as a cold piece of chicken put me off, and the bacon was far too fatty for me. However, the pasta was cooked pretty well and the linguine over all was excellent.
I had a lot of meat left over at the end – and would have probably have preferred far less and a bit better quality. My boyfriend went for the The Double Gourmet (£14.95) – Two 6oz* Foxham Farm beef patties piled high with melted Emmental cheese, streaky bacon and BBQ sauce. He seemed to enjoy his main a lot.
I was quite excited for a dessert, but I was left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
The staff took a while to take my order, and when she did she basically barked if we wanted anything else with it. My boyfriend asked if he could have a pot of tea (not exactly as if he asked if he could have the moon, served on a plate, with gold flakes).
It then took, I honestly can’t tell you how long, quite a while for it to arrive. I watched one chef walk around the restaurant and other staff meander as if they didn’t have customers to serve. I was about ready to get up and leave, we did have other things to do that day.
It finally arrived, with no apologies for the wait. It wasn’t exactly amazing. The waffle felt chewy and I had to basically saw through it. The ice cream and cherry sauce were the only redeemable qualities. Poor that I paid so much for that.
The meal was okay, aside from the waitress who acted as if she wanted us gone. Once, she attempted to take my drink from me when it was obviously still being drank. It wasn’t that busy, so I didn’t understand the need to rush. I felt as if it upset the date I was trying to have with my boyfriend.
I don’t know if we’ll go back to Joe’s after that experience. The food was good, in parts, and the atmosphere is fun and friendly, but the staff slightly put me off this time.
